I changed the subject entirely, inserted some words that weren’t there originally, cut some other words. I’ve slimmed down the sentence a bit more, though it’s now quite divorced from the Japanese syntax. Precisely because it is a snapshot of an everyday scene-two girls innocently going about their daily chores-it must make those viewing the painting keenly aware that this moment in time will never return. But I think I can probably still get away with one sentence, so now I’m going to shift clauses a little and see what that does for the overall effect. I still haven’t decided how I’ll translate the emphasis marker, and I’m not satisfied with how it reads at all. “Feel” became “aware “time” became “moment”. Even so, though, you can see where I’ve already pulled away a little. The above is a terribly clunky and fairly literal translation. The sight of them so innocently going about such a trivial chore must make those viewing the painting keenly aware that this moment will never return, precisely/especially because it is such an everyday scene. I’m going to try for one sentence first, and see how it looks and sounds. At this point, I’m also wondering if the resultant sentence will be too long and convoluted in English and whether or not it should be broken in half. And lastly follows the “what.” In this case, the author is conveying that the viewers must keenly feel the ephemerality of the moment. Whom you ask? Those who are looking at the painting. And after the subject comes the main verb of the sentence, which is “make them feel”. However, “sight” is modified by a verbal clause, so I have to restructure that and set it in English syntax. The subject of the sentence is, with the sight being the two little girls referred to in the sentence before this one. Now I’ve unpacked the sentence, I can identify what’s modifying what. This probably looks like gobbledygook if you’re unfamiliar with Japanese syntax, but I can see the flow of things more easily this way when my brain’s not quite hooking into the Japanese syntax. The first thing I do is break out solid pieces of text-that is to say nouns, verbs, adjectives, things more substantial and therefore more likely to have direct translations, and transcribe them as they are with the particle markers intact. The narrator is describing a painting by Sargent. Here’s an example in a text I’m working on right now. Often, I find myself lost in the syntax, and so have to unravel it by writing it out and studying each individual part, finding how it relates to the whole via the clause markers attached to it. Verbal clauses can be embedded inside verbal clauses ad nauseum, and sentences can go on for pages, especially in older works not yet influenced by Western stylistics. It can twist and turn in unexpected ways, especially in the hands of a master writer. Its lack of a minimum carbon content is not ideal for high-temperature applications where optimal strength is required, thus, 304H is preferred. The carbon content of 304 (UNS 30400) is restricted to a maximum of 0.08% and is not useful for corrosive applications where welding is required, such as tanks and pipes where corrosive solutions are involved, and 304L is preferred. This grain boundary corrosive attack is known as intergranular corrosion. The subsequent formation of chromium carbide results in reduced corrosion resistance along the grain boundary leaving the stainless steel susceptible to unanticipated corrosion in an environment where 304 would be expected to be corrosion resistant. Sensitization is the formation of chromium carbides along grain boundaries when stainless steel is exposed to temperatures in the approximate range of 900–1,500 ☏ (480–820 ☌). The carbon content of 304L (UNS 30403) is restricted to a maximum of 0.03%, which prevents sensitization during welding. The carbon content of 304H (UNS S30409) is restricted to 0.04–0.10%, which provides optimal high-temperature strength. The difference between 304, 304H, and 304L is the carbon content which is >0.03, >0.05, and <0.03 respectively. It is subject to pitting and crevice corrosion in warm chloride environments and to stress corrosion cracking above about 60☌.
And it’s a good idea to revisit annually to ensure everything remains in order. Whether you use a general or special power of attorney, durable or not, it’s important to have one in place. You don’t want to have to hope the judgement works in your favor or that it works in time to help your loved one. You don’t want to find yourself in a situation where you’re waiting weeks for the courts to help. Another thing to keep in mind is that some states treat power of attorney as durable unless explicitly stated otherwise. Most notably, in cases where the principle and agent became divorced but hadn’t updated documents. A durable power of attorney stays effective until the principle dies or until they act to revoke the power they’ve granted to their agent.īut there are a handful of circumstances where courts will end durable power of attorney. It’s designed to provide an agent with broad powers that don’t require you to predict every possible legal scenario in advance.īy contrast, a special power of attorney is written to be narrow, requiring you to outline every authority that’s granted. A general power of attorney grants wide legal authority to act on a person’s behalf, including filing tax returns, paying bills, borrowing money, and so on. Among the most common are special, general, and medical power of attorney. There are several types of power of attorney. But the specific powers granted in a POA depend on the language of the document, which is why it’s critical to understand the difference between power of attorney and durable power of attorney. Talking about drafting a power of attorney can be a rare opportunity to broach these issues with loved ones. It allows you to name an agent who can make decisions on your behalf. The repositioned bone is held in place with screws. This procedure is performed through the skin with a small incision, when the pieces of bone can be realigned without a large incision. What are the types of surgical procedures? It is important to note that there are multiple types of heel fractures. However, surgery may be delayed to allow swelling to subside which can improve your results and reduce the risk of infection. When the fracture extends into the joint or the normal anatomy of the heel is deformed, surgery may be necessary to restore anatomy and mobility. If the fracture causes the Achilles tendon to tear off a piece of the bone (an avulsion fracture), immediate surgery may be necessary. When the fracture is open and the bone fragments stick out of the skin, immediate surgery will be needed. However, nonsurgical treatment can sometimes lead to complications including arthritis and a limp. Crutches are used to take the weight off the foot until the fracture is healed. Immobilization with a cast can last 6-8 weeks or longer. A cast or splint will be used to protect the fracture and hold the bones in their proper position. This will include rest, icing, compression and elevation, and immobilization. When a heel fracture doesn’t affect the joint and the broken pieces are not displaced, it may be treated with nonsurgical management. When is nonsurgical treatment appropriate? Your OANC orthopedic surgeon will evaluate your options and discuss them with you. The goal of treatment is to restore normal anatomy and function. Severity is determined by the number of fractures, the amount and size of bone fragments, whether the bones line up, whether cartilage is injured, and whether the surrounding muscles, tendons and skin are injured. Treatment will depend upon the type and severity of fracture, the details of your injury, your health and the extent of the damage to the soft tissues. Sometimes, this type of fracture can cause long-term complications, such as arthritis, stiffness and pain, despite proper treatment. Many times, surgery is necessary to restore normal anatomy and mobility. The calcaneus or heel bone is the largest bone in the foot and servers as the primary weight bearing structure in the heel.Ī heel bone fracture can be severe, painful and debilitating. Basically, cutting the lettuce “around the equator” is a no. Take a glance at the photos if this is confusing. The core will help keep each wedge together. Cut each head of lettuce into quarters through the stem. I just want to highlight this, because it is one of the few ways this recipe could go south on you. My version features a not-shy spicy ranch dressing along with pine nuts, and lots of chives. Add a minute or so on the grill before dressing and you have a gorgeous grilled wedge that you can serve alongside whatever else is coming off your grill, for example tofu burgers, or grilled versions of your favorite tartine. And as much as I love a wedge salad, I love a grilled wedge salad even more. It rides high on any plate and always brings the drama. Seafood – Side salads are a perfect pairing to seafood. You can also serve this salad with other steaks, such as ribeye or garlic butter steak bites, or for special occasions, prime rib or roasted beef tenderloin. Add air fryer baked potatoes for a classic steakhouse meal. Beef – A simple sirloin steak or filet mignon and classic wedge salad make the perfect pair. However, you can make the blue cheese dressing, wash and cut the lettuce, cook the bacon, and dice the red onions ahead of time. Meal prep: It’s best to not compile the salad until you’re ready to eat it.For optimal crispness, store wedges and dressing separately. Store: Transfer portions of leftover iceberg wedge salad into airtight containers and store in the fridge for 1-2 days.Black Pepper – Although optional, I highly recommend fresh cracked pepper to balance the creamy flavors in the dressing. It’s so much better than store-bought, but store-bought does work if you prefer. That’s it! Get the full homemade blue cheese dressing recipe here with ingredient amounts. Blue Cheese Dressing – Before you reach for the bottled blue cheese dressing, let me tell you how easy it is to make it yourself: Stir together mayonnaise, sour cream, blue cheese crumbles, lemon juice (or vinegar), milk of your choice, sea salt, and pepper together in a small bowl.Crumbled Blue Cheese – Delivers a signature sharp, creamy, peppery taste that contrasts perfectly with the crisp and sweet vegetables. You could substitute a different onion if you prefer, or try sliced chives. Onions – Because of their bright color and crispy texture, I used diced red onions. If you want an extra dose of veggies, you can add some diced cucumbers or avocados, too. Tomatoes – I used grape tomatoes, but cherry tomatoes would also work, or dice larger tomatoes if that’s what you have. But, you could use pre-cooked bacon bits for convenience (about 8 tablespoons). You can cook bacon in the oven, in the microwave, or in the air fryer. Cooked Bacon – For the bacon crumbles, I recommend fresh cooked bacon. You could combine the same flavors with other types of lettuce, such as romaine, but most other varieties won’t hold together in a wedge shape. Iceberg Lettuce – With its layered texture and tight leaves, iceberg lettuce gives this salad the perfect crunchy bite. For measurements, see the recipe card below.
